ABOUT JOHN

Although born in Havre, Montana, John Ahern is proud to call Spokane, Washington his home since 1962. In 1983 he opened his own business, Janco Products, which is a copier and copier supply business. John and his wife of 47 years, Nancy, still run the business. John is a family man with 3 children and 4 grandchildren. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts when his two sons were in the troop; both boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

John plays an active role in the community. He has been an active member of the Kiwanis for the last 40 years and also served as Kiwanis Lt. Governor and before then, an active member of the Spokane Jaycces. John also belongs to the Knights of Columbus. He is on the Board of Right to Life, as well as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.

John served in the Washington State House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008. He has been a member of the Judiciary and Public Safety Committees and also ranking minority member of the Human Services Committee.

While serving in the Legislature, John was instrumental in passing the DUI felony bill for which he earned a national traffic safety award. That bill continues to protect and save lives in Washington State. He also authored a bill which secured funding and established a Veterans Home at St. Luke's right here in Spokane.
